Fall Practice Reminders

Football season is here! On Monday morning July 30th at 7:00am we begin our 2018 season. I wanted to reach out to all parents to address guidelines and procedures for practices this summer/fall.

 

  1. The schedule for July and August is on the website. This schedule can be changed due to weather, but we will stick to this schedule as closely as possible. Please try to have your student-athlete arrive at least 15 minutes before we begin. We will be alternating between a 7:00am-1:00pm practice and a 7:00am-10:00am practice. On the days that we will have practice from 7:00am-1:00pm (two-a-day) we will be splitting the practice up with a 2 and half hour practice, a one hour break, and another 2 and a half hour practice. Practices end at those times so please allow your student-athlete time to get changed and get back to the locker room for pickup.

 

  1. Please be sure to have your student-athlete EAT before every practice. We have very rigorous practices and they need fuel to be able to give full effort. I understand it is an early wake up call, but anything they can put in their bodies before practice will benefit them. Before and after every practice it is imperative that our players eat and refuel their bodies. 

 

  1. Please be sure to have your student-athlete HYDRATE before and after every practice. All athletes need to make sure they are replenishing their fluids every day. I would recommend filling a gallon jug with water and have them finish one gallon of water a day. Please try to stay away from sodas and sugary drinks. 

 

  1. For the first 3 days we will be wearing helmets that are provided by Midlothian High School. If your son ordered a helmet, we will give them a helmet until the helmets they own come in. All players must wear Midlothian School colors at practice. NAVY, GOLD, BLACK, GREY, or WHITE colors are acceptable. We will look like a team at all times. On the Thursday of practice we will wear shoulder pads. Players need to have a practice jersey. They may purchase one from the coaches as we have extras. On Saturday Night the 4th, we will be in full pads and players will need their girdles and pants. 

 

  1. Players should bring cleats, tennis shoes, extra clothes, extra socks, water, and a snack to practices. If a players socks get wet in the first practice, they need to have an extra pair to wear to prevent blisters. They will need something to eat between the two a day practices. A sandwich or meal replacement bar will do fine.

If you forgot to order anything or need to order anything, please do so now. This shipment should take 2 weeks to arrive. 

 

  1. parent meeting will be held on August 1st 7:00pm at Midlothian High School in the auditorium. Please plan on attending as we will discuss sign-ups, parent help, athletic training, boosters, and have a chance to meet our new DSA, Mrs. Shea Collins. 

 

  1. We will be having a team night on August 7th at the Richmond Squirrels game. With our fundraised money, we will purchase tickets for any player that would like to go. Family are more than welcome to attend, but they will need to purchase their own ticket. We will get a tally of players attending next week.

We are very excited for this season and have put in a lot of work these past few months. Our players are prepared and we have a strong belief in our abilities. June and July Workout schedule is posted. All players must have a VHSL physical and concussion form to participate. All workouts will be held at Midlothian High School Field House. Players who have participated in the past 7v7s at JR Tucker may attend with a physical on file and a waiver form.

Required Paperwork to participate in Athletics at Midlothian High School

Required Paperwork in Order to Participate in a Sport at MHS

 

The following five forms must be completed and turned in prior to a student being able to participate in a sport.

  • (1)   A signed VHSL Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical examination Form is required for each school year.  Valid physicals run from May 1 of the current year through June 30 of the succeeding year.
  • (2)   A signed Parent/Athlete Concussion Information Sheet
  • (3)   A signed Student Athlete Sportsmanship Expectation Form
  • (4)   A signed MHS Athletic Insurance Form
  • (5)   A signed signature page from the MHS Student/Athlete Handbook

All of these forms can be found on this website under Files/Links at the top of the home page.

All completed paperwork must be turned into the athlete’s coach or to the Director of Student Activities.

Please submit all completed paperwork together.
